The UK government has announced the launch of a new consultation to discuss whether or not to introduce standardised plain packaging for cigarettes sold in the UK. This is in relation to s
moking related diseases.
People, businesses and stakeholder organisations are all being encouraged to submit responses before July 10th 2012, with the key question being whether or not to go ahead with this move, or if other alternatives should be considered.
Respondents will also be asked what requirements might be imposed for the new standardised packaging, as well as the effect these changes would have on consumer habits and the industry.
In April 2012, new laws came into effect that will compel large shops and supermarkets in England to cover up cigarette displays and hide tobacco products from public view.
