NBA: Kings Could Learn from the Rockets

If you compare the Houston Rockets roster to that of the Kings, you might agree that Sacramento has more individual talent. The names on the Kings roster are more celebrated and individually prolific than a Houston starting five which includes names like Dragic, Scola, and Martin to name a few. But these Rockets are 32-26 and have a game and half cushion with the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference. The Rockets hold their opponents to 97.3 points per game while the Kings are allowing their opposition to score 104.1 points. Clearly the Rockets head coach, Kevin McHale has Houston playing with a defensive mindset. The Kings can learn from Houston to be more defense oriented. The trio of Marcus Thornton, Tyreke Evans and Demarcus Cousins outmatches any three players on the Rockets in terms of talent. However, the intensity players like Goran Dragic bring on the defensive end has been lacking by Sacramento's players. They needs to play with more cohesiveness and be more diligent on the defensive end. They allow the most points by their opponents to be scored against them. They can turn around their record and be playoff contenders if they hustle back on defense and prevent easy transition opportunities and if they can box out more and prevent offensive rebounds by their opponents. They can add 15 wins to their 2012-2013 season with consistent effort in these categories.
