Spend Sunrise Service at the Lincoln Memorial this Sunday, as Easter 2012 commences.
In what has been a Washington D.C. tradition for 34 years, as estimated 6,000 people are expected to attend.
The events starts bright and early, hence sunrise, at 6:30 a.m. with Pastor Amos Dodge hosting. The pastor is from the
Capital Church of Vienna, Virginia.
"This is not an event we sponsor but an assignment we have to our city, nation and world," says Pastor Dodge. "To joyfully, powerfully and boldly proclaim that 'Jesus Christ is Risen!'"
If planning on attending, one is encouraged to dress for potential brisk conditions.
Troop services
The troops overseas will not be forgotten this Easter as
Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Troop Support Subsistence, and Clothing and Textiles employees began planning for special meals and related religious items as early as October 2011.
The Easter menu includes
46,612 pounds of turkey
20,475 pounds of Cornish hen
30,525 pounds of ham
5,712 pounds of shrimp
63,200 pounds of lobster and crab
Also planned is an assortment of vegetables, beverages and desserts. Meanwhile, kosher meals are available, too. The kosher-for-Passover menus include bone-in chicken with potatoes, beef vegetable stew, gefilte fish, salmon and the traditional matzo crackers, and desserts.
DLA also provides Seder kits, literature, and palm fronds.
Employees at DLA Troop Support have ensured that all deliveries have been made to more than 285 dining facilities and distribution points located throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait.
"We are committed to providing these Americans with the items they need to observe their religious beliefs, especially since they are doing so much to protect our own freedoms back home," Navy Rear Adm. David Baucom, DLA Troop Support commander, said.
Tebow Easter
Celebration Church announced that Tim Tebow, will be guest speaker for its Easter Sunday service titled
"Easter on the Hill."
It is anticipated that more than 20,000 Austin-area families are expected to attend its first-ever outdoor service, April 8 at 10 a.m. CST. It is lcoated located acre the Westinghouse campus in Georgetown, TX.
"As the son of an NFL coach, and also someone who came to know Christ thanks to two NFL players who were willing to share the Gospel with me, I am extremely excited to have Tim Tebow with us this year. We believe this year's service will impact the lives of those who would never enter the doors of a church" said Celebration Church Pastor Joe Champion.
