Are 'viral' video articles the primary content focus for writers?

I must ask this question because I'm rather curious. A large number of articles published on DJ as of late are related to published YouTube videos that are either viral or not viral.
Trust me, this is not a criticism of anyone publishing this sort of content because it seems they generate a significant number of views and votes for reporters here.
The purpose of this blog post is to understand if regular contributors and visitors to this site enjoy reading these articles and if the regular contributors enjoy publishing these news reports.
Also, what started this trend? When I first started here three years ago, there was only a couple of these articles a month, but now it's daily. Is DJ promoting viral video articles?
Anyway, interested in all responses. Happy shoe leather journalism to all!
