Get Headlights in Your Shoes

Posted Apr 3, 2008 by Chris Hogg in Technology 2 comments
Kind of a neat gimmick for geeky runners (if you are out there). Pioneer is a concept shoe designed by Feijun Chen & Bin Zhao that converts kinetic walking energy into electrical energy.

There is a tiny battery inside the shoe that charges with every step you take. The headlights can run for a full 12 hours (if you are running in the Arctic when daylight is scarce) and shoot the beam 1.5 metres.

The shoe is also water proof.

A concept shoe designed by Feijun Chen & Bin Zhao actually includes batteries so every step you take charges a headlight built-into the toe of the shoe.

To be honest, I wouldn't want to be caught dead in these weird shoes! And aren't these around for kids anyway? Looks like the adult-version is even more pointless..."Hey look at me walk, aren't I the brightest!"

I think it will be good for runners running early in the morning or late in the evening. Usually here they wear an orange vest over them with reflectors, so this could be useful in such cases. But it looks better than Crocs.
