This is a cool idea: creating a map to show were people snap the most photos. Sightsmap "takes geo data from the photos uploaded to Panoramio (now a Google service) and uses it to generate a heatmap." Essentially, it's a map showing the most popular photo destinations, but note it isn't based on more popular services such as Flickr.
It looks like Europe and the Middle East attract many photographers. In the U.S., the coastal regions get the most love, while in Africa only Morrocco and Egypt seem to attract shutterbugs.
A cool feature lets you turn on the photo mapping, allowing you to view individual photos snapped and uploaded to Panoramio.
