The story of Eva Markvoort is one that gets you right there. In your trips. When this beautiful 23 year-old woman, full of life despite the fact that her last breath could be a day away, goes public with her fight with Cystic Fibrosis, a fatal condition in which the lungs get infected to a point where breathing becomes impossible, she unwitingly creates a worldwide response.
THE DOCUMENTARY
Her blog,
65 RedRoses, is her link to the outside world, and more particulary with two young ladies also suffering from CF, and it is also the title of a poignant and award winning documentary, by
Mimisha Mukerji and
Philip Lyall, in which nothing is hidden. Eva's journey, and her family's journey, take you on a rollercoaster of emotions; you hope for her, and yet, you can't help but fear the worst.
This documentary was shown a long while ago on the CBC's Passionate Eye.

I am not posting it just to make you cry and have your heart broken in a thousand pieces, but maybe as an encouragement, certainly in honour of a very courageous young woman, and also very certainly to remind each one of us of the importance of signing this little card that says: organ donor.
THE LAST GOODBYE

Eva Markvoort died on March 27, 2010, at the age of 25, despite the very best efforts made by many at the Vancouver General Hospital. Days before, knowing that her fight was over, and conscious of the effect she had had on people around the world, Eva made her final goodbyes.

Eva is a shining example of courage, and, without a doubt, angels have a new member on staff. But she is far from gone, not only because she lives on in the lives of her family and friends, but also because in 2012 we will hear a lot more about Eva Markvoort, her fight, and the need to push research on Cystic Fibrosis. None other than Oprah Winfrey has acquired the aforementioned documentary for OWN Documentaries, this time with end-of-life added footage.
Here is the official site in memory of Eva.
