Our emotional states have a lot to do with our physical and mental health. Here is a great Native American story illustrating the role of our conscious effort in preventing disease and attaining optimum health through positive thought and emotions. Published in the recent book Wisdom to Wellness by Maureen Minnehan Jones, the story is being posted here with the permission of the author.
One day, the elder was teaching his grandchildren about life.
“There is a fight going on inside me,” he told them. “It’s a terrible fight, and it’s between two wolves. One wolf represents fear and anger, hopelessness, helplessness, powerlessness, and resentment. The other wolf stands for love, faith, personal power, kindness, joy, compassion, and peace. The fight is going on inside you and every other person too.”
The children thought about this for a minute, and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The elder simply replied, “The one that’s fed.”
Maureen Jones’ interview on healing naturally through the Modus Operandi (MO) technique, developed by her, will appear in the January 2012 issue of Recovering the Self. To learn more about her healing work, visit her website.
