Is it good timing or perhaps a look into things to come that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced a screening of the first Best Picture winner "Wings"?
With "The Artist" considered the Oscar front-runner and is a black and white silent film, comes this timely news.
"Wings" stars Clara Bow, Charles "Buddy" Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper. It will be a part of Paramount Pictures' 100th anniversary. Now, it becomes more clear than just a coincidence linking it with this year's front-runner. Personally, a front-runner now may not hold up.
The film will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Wed., Jan.18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Tickets are $5 for the public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.
Note: From AMPAS - The 100th anniversary of paramount - "Paramount's Movie Milestones: A Centennial Celebration," an exhibition of photographs, posters, design sketches and personal correspondence highlighting some of Paramount's most celebrated films and filmmakers over the past 100 years. The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 5, in the Academy's Grand Lobby Gallery. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, noon to 6 p.m.Admission is free.
The Samuel Goldwyn Theater and the Academy Grand Lobby Gallery are located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
