When this item was first passed to me, I really didn't give it a second thought, and then, I did.
After all, Thanksgiving is upon us. Many hit the road and head to destinations all over this great land of ours. Others still hit the skies. But, even those travelers will not be as far out as our astronauts. Oh, make that our one NASA astronaut and two cosmonauts.
Thanksgiving will not go by the wayside for those aboard the International Space State. They will celebrate while floating 220 miles above the Earth. Now, let's take a look at the meal that they will have. Sure, all with a touch of the space-style they are used to, of course.
Let's start with irradiated smoked turkey, thermostable yams and freeze-dried green beans. It has also been noted that they will enjoy NASA's own cornbread dressing, as well as home style potatoes and cranberries. For desert, cherry-blueberry cobbler, if they so desire. You bet, NASA's own food, with all the trimmings and the best view going these days. And nobody stopping in unannounced or traffic jams and those conversations about the weather and directions, etc. Wait, weather may come up, plus a conversation about incoming space junk.
I will leave with one question: Do Russians celebrate Thanksgiving? And does it really matter?

NASA astronaut Dan Burbank and Russian cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Anatoly Ivanishin arrived at the station last week and will spend this holiday season aboard the orbiting laboratory. They are scheduled to live and work aboard the station until March, conducting dozens of experiments and preparing for the arrival of new commercial resupply spacecraft.
