I was strolling through the Occupy Toronto camp today at St. James Park when I noticed a heavy media scrum in the middle of the region. I thought it might've been in relation to the eviction notice the protesters received today, but lo and behold! there was a Canadian music icon in our midst!
Gordon Lightfoot was being interviewed by Toronto media, standing beside his daughter, who is an Occupy Toronto protester. She was saying how she wants to stay at the park, no matter what the City tells her. Lightfoot remarked on how he supports his daughter's decision.
I was able to hustle into the scrum and snap a few pics before Lightfoot went on his merry way with his guitar-slinging daughter.
For those unfamiliar with Lighfoot, he's the 72-year-old folk music legend who was once called one of Bob Dylan's favourite songwriters. His most popular songs include "Early Morning Rain," "Ribbon of Darkness" and "Sundown."
He was inducted in the Canadian Hall of Fame in 1986. Remarkably, he's played with some of his band members for more than 30 years
Lightfoot is currently in the middle of a North American tour.
Who else will show up at St. James Park to lend their voice to the protesters?
