Video games in hotels aren't new, but they certainly are more mainstream.
This USA Today article talks about a new deal being cooked between Nintendo and the Westin chain to offer customized versions of Wii at their hotels.
As USA Today reports:
The fitness center at Manhattan's Le Parker Meridien has a customized Nintendo Wii console (games are preloaded and can't be pirated). Guests and non-guests work out with a trainer on Wii tennis or boxing projected on a racquetball court wall ($120 an hour) or rent the console to play solo or with pals ($50 an hour).
Other hotels are actually delivering Wii consoles to guest rooms on request.
When it comes to Guitar Hero, the Hotel Monaco Seattle is actually considering holding competitions between guests. I've heard of this in Toronto, actually, where bars set up Guitar Hero nights instead of karaoke (brilliant idea).
The new Hotel Sax Chicago has also inked a deal with Microsoft to let gamers play over Xbox Live with other hotel guests in other rooms. Pretty cool idea if you ask me.
I think it's great to see big hotels looking at gaming as a way to attract guests. What do you think?
