During the graduation ceremony which was held last Saturday by my school, a group of students from another secondary schools was invited to perform using Malay traditional music instruments. Many of these traditional instruments are losing their place in a society that is moving towards modernization. Listening to the unique rhythm produced by these traditional instruments was truly a treat. It was good to see a group of youngsters taking the interest to learn how to play these traditional instruments, which look complicated to someone like me.
With enthusiastic students willing to keep an ancient art alive, Malay traditional music will not cease to exist.
