Digital Journal Expands Features in Local News Widget

Posted Oct 31, 2008 by  Chris Hogg in Internet 6 comments
We recently introduced a new widget on the front page of DigitalJournal.com so that every reader could easily find news from their country. The feature has been a pretty big success and we'd like to thank those of you who've contacted us with more suggestions.
With so many of Digital Journal's readers being hardcore news junkies, we weren't surprised to hear requests to have the geographic-based news allow more than one country's feed. Canadians, for example, often have family or friends living in another country and want news from that country as well. Or, Americans might also want to know what's going on in Australia, China or the Middle East, for example.
We're happy to say you can now carry up to three countries in your "Local News" widget on the front page of DigitalJournal.com.
If you visit DigitalJournal.com, you are given targeted country news in the top right-hand side of the site (if you don't see this widget it means you've customized your layout -- click "reset layout" if that is the case). You can now click "Edit" and add up to three customized news feeds from various countries around the world.
Thanks Catherine for the feedback, and we look forward to building more tools for all readers. As always, please don't hesitate to Contact Us if you have suggestions or requests for features.

Yeah the quickest way to find it is to click "Reset layout" -- that link is on the front page on the bottom left or top right. This resets widgets to their default position.
The local news widget is very handy.

Actually, what I did was to click on add content to find the local news widget.

    Do you find it useful?
A lot of content on DJ is U.S.-focused so perhaps you don't need to localize as much, but for non-American users it's a great way to find articles quickly, IMO.

Yes, I did...but being a CJ...I tend to use the widgets that show live events, the posts, and the comments. Even though I may have DJ up in a tab...and doing other things, I go here and see what's changed and what's being said, posted, etc.

I find it very useful for locating Canadian articles.
