If you've ever wondered what happens to closed theatre houses, you'll want to check out AfterTheFinalCurtain.net. This site tracks down "neglected and abandoned theaters throughout the United States" as its front page states. Run by photographer Matt Lambros in New York City, these "photographic obituaries" add a sharp sense of nostalgia to these buildings that once houses packed houses and celebrated films and plays.
Each entry includes photos of the interior, often showing cracked walls and broken seats. Lambros writes about each theatre and how it began and what came of it.
This project rings familiar to Labelscar, a blog covering retail histories from various American communities. Labelscar is best known for photographing dead and abandoned shopping malls.
What do you think of AfterTheFinalCurtain.net? Do you have any abandoned theatres in your community?
