To the delight of viewers across America, HBO hit show Boardwalk Empire has been renewed for a second season, it has been announced.
"All the ingredients are aligned for this one, from Mark Wahlberg's initial pitch, to Martin Scorsese's enormous contributions as director and executive producer, to the genius of Terence a stellar cast led by Steve Buscemi," said HBO president Mr. Lombardo.
"The response from the media and our viewers has been nothing short of amazing."
The show comes from talented pair Terence Winter - award-winning writer of The Sopranos - and Oscar-winning Martin Scorsese.
Boardwalk Empire is based during the 1920s in the Las Vegas of its time, Atlantic City, during the controversial time of the Prohibition.
Amongst the critical acclaim the show has received, USA today stated:
"it [Boardwalk Empire] brings HBO back to the forefront of the TV-series race."
And, [a personal favourite] from New York Daily News: "Watching Boardwalk Empire is like sitting in your favourite bar and hearing someone say 'drinks are on the house'. Friends, it does not get much better than this."
Empire averaged 4.8 million viewers on September 19th, the day of its premiere.
Consequently this scored HBO's biggest premiere of any program in six years.
With such rousing popularity, it has been suggested right across the media spectrum that after such a box-office introduction, the best is yet to come from America's finest new drama.
