A bitter/sweet vacation at Pensacola Beach

My husband and I left for Pensacola Beach Florida on March 1 and returned home last night.
The only purpose of this vacation was to spend the time with my sister and brother-in-law. We had camped there with them several years ago in Fort Pickens which is west of Pensacola Beach on Santa Rosa Island.
It was a very happy time of camping and daily walks as we explored the nature trails.
In late 2004 Hurricane Ivan hit the area and wiped out the campground and the road leading to it.
After the road was rebuilt and the campground restored they have gone back and camped a time or two. We had sold our motor home and didn't go back with them.
This year my brother-in-law was determined to go back there one more time as he has terminal cancer.
We decided to go back also when they were there as it would be our last camping trip with them. One year we camped with them on a trip out west and have been camping with them several times up at Sault St. Marie in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. After we sold the motor home when they went to the "Soo" we often went there to be with them and stayed in a motel.
Such happy times were spent with them around a camp fire and cooking breakfast outside which he loved to do.
This will be his last camping trip and this trip will be cut short because of his condition. One of their sons flew down last night to drive them back home. He is not going to be able to drive. My sister did some of the driving down and she just had double knee surgery the end of November and the driving was too hard on her. They were pulling a camper.
One of his sisters and her husband also decided to be there with them as well as a couple they have been friends with for years.
For some reason we all felt compelled to spend this time with them with the memories of a much happier time.
I would ask that no one post this on Facebook, please.
