According to a report by the Financial Times (FT) (via DevelopMag.com), Nintendo's profit per capita is the best in the world. Development and R&D workers at the video game company generate more revenue per employee than Google or Goldman Sachs, according to a FT survey.
Nintendo's 3,000 employees work mostly in R&D or video game development, and the survey says they will bring in $1.6 million each for the company. In contrast, a Google employee will bring in $626,000 for the company, while a Goldman Sachs employee will bring in $1.24 million.
To make things even more impressive, Nintendo said these numbers are conservative and the actual per-capita earnings per employee could be higher.
As the FT reports, outsourcing is a big factor:
"All manufacturing of the Wii is outsourced, and even high-profile games such as Mario Party are developed externally, with oversight from Nintendo producers. In spite of their profitability, however, there is unlikely to be an outbreak of programmers driving Maseratis to work at Nintendo’s headquarters in the southern suburbs of Kyoto."
