YouTube and Pulitzer Center team up for citizen journalism contest

Posted Sep 8, 2008 by  David Silverberg in Internet 3 comments
YouTube announced it is launching Project: Report, a contest for "non professional journalists" to complete assignments, submit videos and vie for prizes and cash. Partnering with the Pulitzer Centre, this contest is for "aspiring journalists to tell stories that might not otherwise be covered by traditional media," as the press release states.
What do citizen journalists need to do? "In each of the three rounds of Project: Report, reporters will be given an assignment to complete. Each of these assignments gives people an opportunity to report on the important individuals, issues, and communities in their lives that others do not yet know about."
In the first assignment, entrants need to profile someone in their community who has done something intriguing or remarkable. Video submissions for the first round are due by October 5, and a panel of journalists from the Pulitzer Center will narrow the field to 10 semi-finalists.
These journalists can win prizes from Sony and Intel, and try to reach the grand prize: a $10,000 journalism fellowship with the Pulitzer Center to report on a story outside of their home country.
The full rules to Project: Report can found here.
