Mars Inc. has chosen to promote its peanut M&M's this year opting for a mystery teaser, "What happened to Yellow?"
The 30-second teaser features an animated peanut M&M, known as "Yellow," clad in sweatbands and running shoes. Yellow begins warming-up to an upbeat rap melody when he's shot with a tranquilizer dart and dragged off camera. So begins the mystery of "What happened to Yellow?"
Mars launched its M&M's "Year of the Peanut" campaign this New Year's Eve, 2014. The past two Super Bowls have included commercial spots featuring M&M's, but this year, rather than playing second to the highly publicized "Red" chocolate M&M, Yellow has been cast as the star. Advertising Age
says that Mars opted for peanut M&M's over Snickers.
Super Bowl XLVIII is set to air Feb. 2 on Fox from MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J. Each 30 seconds of ad time during the game costs, on average, $4 million, reports Advertising Age
