article imageBeans for guys: Jelly Belly launches draft beer jelly beans

By Kirstin Stokes Smith     Jan 23, 2014 in Business
Some three years in the making, Jelly Belly, the maker of gourmet jelly beans, is now adding draft beer flavored beans to its vast collection of flavors.
There is no alcohol in these jelly beans, which, according to Jelly Belly, are flavored based on the taste and scent of hefenweizen ale. Jelly Belly has been developing and offering alcohol-inspired jelly beans since the release of its Mai Tai jelly bean in 1977. The beer bean is intended to be enjoyed by all jelly bean lovers, but it was developed with the male market in mind, reports Businessweek.
Director of Communications for Jelly Belly, Tomi Holt, says beer-flavored jelly beans have been in demand by customers for years. Holt said the team of flavorists at Jelly Belly worked diligently toward developing a bean that had the taste and look of draft beer. The team isolated different aspects of beer flavor with the added challenge of eliminating bitterness, reports USA Today.
The Jelly Belly Candy Company sells and distributes candy all over the world. With its headquarters in Fairfield, CA, the company was founded in 1869. Hoovers reports Jelly Belly's annual revenue at $69.1 million.
