Scientists from the Duke Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research say "smoking causes changes in the brain development of the baby that can last a lifetime."
United States rates of smoking overall is declining, yet one-quarter of Americans have mothers who smoked during pregnancy according to the study published in the journal Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior.
