A new study indicates that most people spend more time with technology than they do with their family.
This survey, conducted by the group Kelton Research (they were commisioned by support.com), concluded that 65% of those involved in the survey spent more time on the computer than with their husband or wife (or just boyfriend/fiance/etc).
Over 80% of those polled said their addiction/need for the computer had increased in the past three years.
The study, known as the "Cyber Stress" study, also revealed some other (in my opinion, not to surprising) data:
- The average user experience problems with his or her computer 8x over the last three years.
- 12 hours per month are being wasted by the average person due to problems with their computer.
- 52% of Americans do not cite happy experiences with their computers-- they described their most recent experience with a computer problem as one that made them feel angry, sad, or lonely/alienated.
The "Cyber Stress" survey was conducted in December and Januaray. 1001 people were involved, and the margin of error was plus or mins 3.1% and a 95% confidence level.
