Rare shark captured on film

By Brandigal (Donna)     Jan 24, 2007 in Environment
The frill shark which dates back to prehistoric times and rarely seen was spotted in the shallows by a fisherman in Japan.
These sharks are rarely ever seen. This shark is 1.6 metre long (5.2 feet). It is a female weighing up to 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds). It has six gills and bizarre forked teeth and looks almost eel like. It lives in waters between 400 to 4,200 feet deep.
Experts believe the seasonal up-current carried the shark from its deep sea habitat to the shallows.
The shark died soon after it was captured because it is unable to survive outside the deep seas.
