article imageSea Lion Found in Cow Barn Now Heading Home

By Brandigal (Donna)     Jan 24, 2007 in Environment
A 200-pound sea lion was found in a cow barn in a small town of Banta about a mile from the water.
John Kisst went to do his weekly vet check of his cows and found "Happy" the sea lion.
The sea lion apparently climbed over the levee, crossed Kisst's property through the corral and settled into the barn, where it found a cow bed made of dried manure and dirt.
He made himself at home. He didn't bother the cows so the cows didn't bother him.
They believe he was hunting fish in the Delta and became lost. The barn is about a mile from the water.
Marine Mammal Rescue Center came out to rescue him and examine him before returning him back to the water.
Kisst said. "He didn't try to bite anyone. We loaded him up without too much incident. The cows were a little inquisitive about him."
