Iraqi Insurgents Planned Their Own Version of 9/11

By geozone     Jan 22, 2007 in World
Documents discovered in an Iraq hideout revealed Iraqi al Qaeda members plotted to send 10-20 terrorists into the United States using student visas.
It was the same method used by al Qaeda terrorists in the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks of 2001. This new group intended to carry out further rounds of terrorist attacks on American soil.
The plot was uncovered 6 months ago at about the time coalition forces killed Abu Musab al -Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq. According to sources for ABC News, the group involved in plotting the new 9/11 style attacks were closely tied to Zarqawi.
"This appears to be the first hard evidence al Qaeda in Iraq was trying to attack us here at home," commented a consultant for ABC News.
It is believed none of the suspects has infiltrated into the United States because the plot was uncovered in its early stages. There is no evidence of an "imminent attack" according to officials.
However, there are fears al Qaeda could redirect some of their recruits in Iraq to the U.S. "Anyone willing to go to Iraq to fight American troops is probably willing to try to come to the United States."
