Church cancels talk by former terrorist after community protest. . . .
I don't know what to make of this article. It is surprising. . . . that a church would do this. The implication is that the protest came from those who were concerned about his pre-conversion behavior. But why should that matter?
A few things don't make sense. . . by "community protest" do they mean the church membership, or outside community? And were all the protesters interested in his former activities, or in the fact that his talk would be "anti-Islamist" and anti-terrorist?
Seems that at least some of the protestors were Muslims. . . . is everyone comfortable with pressure from Muslims dictating what is said in a Christian church? The man is a former terrorist who admittedly killed many people, now a Christian. This could be a huge clash of cultures - Christianity emphasizing forgiveness and redemption, and Islam dictating that apostates (those who leave Islam) should be punished by death.
Regardless, this is a brave man, and an interesting situation. . . I will be searching for more detailed info on the incident and for follow-up. If anyone cares, I'll keep up on it.
