article imageCanada to Spend C$30Million on Rainforest Plan

By Brandigal (Donna)     Jan 21, 2007 in Environment
Canada announced Sunday it will spend $30 million canadian to protect one of the largest intact temperate rainforests left in the world.
The rainforest is being protected by private organizations and philanthropic groups and they are committing 60 million to it. The government is giving 30 million towards it.
The rainforest is in British Columbia and it is called The Great Bear Rainforest. It is 16 million acre preserve that stretches 250 miles along British Columbia's Pacific coastline.
They have salmon and grizzly bears and wolves. It is also the ancestral home of many native tribes.
I am glad they are doing this. I think the forests needs to be protected. They are protecting it from logging as well.
