Hugo Chavez Becoming a Dictator

By bullseye     Jan 19, 2007 in World
The National Assembly of Venezuela initially approves law to let President Hugo Chavez enact laws by decree for 1 1/2 years.
The new law is expected to receive final approval next week. “Emboldened by landslide re-election last month, Chavez said Wednesday night that he was seeking special powers to approve "revolutionary laws" that would mean political, economic, social, national security and defense reforms.” Utilities such as Venezuela‘s telecommunications company and the electricity and natural gas sectors are among the Chavez targets once the law is enacted. Critics charge that too much power is invested in just one leader. Chaves has also assembled a commission to recommend sweeping constitutional reforms that voters will approval later this year.
