A woman described as "Mother Teresa without a conscience" accused of scams in Toronto and the Philippines was arrested on immigration warrant.
Janice Del Rosario,44, was found and arrested last night in an apartment building in Toronto. She had locked her two boys ages 8 and 13 and herself into a basement apartment that was not hers.
She is accused of defrauding over a dozen out of at least $1.5 million dollars. She had three duffel bags of jewelery with her in the apartment as well.
The alleged scam was based on an offer of a 10 per cent return on personal loans for just 10 days. Del Rosario claimed she was involved in buying and selling high-end jewelery. Investors were given post-dated cheques to cover the loans.
The family came to Canada in March of 2003 claiming they were victims of extortion by corrupt Filipino police officials but there is also warrants for their arrest in the Philippines for fraud in connection with a large-scale pyramid-type scam involving members of the police force there.
She told stories to friends about her son being kidnapped and she would also try to help others.
She held bible meetings in her condo and would text friends with bible quotes.
She is awaiting deportation back to the Philippines and her husband, Kaye 34, is still at large with a Canada wide warrant issued for him.
At least they caught her. Not sure what will happen to her children since the father is also not caught yet.
