Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 31 yard fg with 1:10 left to send Patriots to AFC title game against New Orleans Saints.
Tom Brady overcame 3 interceptions to go 27 of 51 for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns and the Patriots overcame a 14-3 1st quarter deficit to shock the San Diego Chargers in front of a record crowd of 68,810 at Qualcomm Stadium.
"Tomlinson scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter for a 7-3 lead. Later, he turned a screen pass into a brilliant 58-yard gain, leaving two defenders grasping at air while he scooted to the New England 6. His backup, Michael Turner, scored on the next play for a 14-3 lead".
The Patriots tied the game at 21 with with 4:36 to play when Brady hit Reche Caldwell with a 4 yard pass and Kevin Faulk took a direct snap on the extra point attempt and ran down the middle for the 2 point conversion.
On the next drive the Chargers went for it on 4th down from their own 30 when the San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers was sacked and fumbled the ball and New England recovered.
NFL MVP Ladainian Tomlinson ran for 123 yards and two scores, and caught two passes for 64 yards.
What a disappointing loss for San Diego and their fans the Chargers had a helluva a year with 9 guys going to the Pro Bowl.
