'Image Spam' Could Bring the Internet to a Standstill

In order to slip by anti-spam protection, hackers are creating spam using images in place of text.
Although there has been some prosecution, the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are never found nor charged. This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem of late with more and more people falling for it.
"Image spam is taking up 70 per cent of the bandwidth bulge on account of the large file sizes every single one represents." It is on the rise and it represents 35 percent of all 'junk mail.
The e-mails usually contain stock tips and are used by gangs for scams called "pump-and-dump". Where stocks are inflated right before they're sold.
