PC World editor murdered, wife pistol whipped in their CA home

By bobSP     Jan 11, 2007 in Crime
Authorities calling it a 'drug-related' attack, said the murder took place yesterday.
Rex Farrance--the Senior Technical Editor--was shot once in the chest after several masked men broke into his home. His wife was pistol-whipped by the assailants as well--she was the one who called police..unfortunately, the men had already escaped.
"We have substantial reason to believe that the victim and his wife were involved in the possession and, potentially, the distribution of illegal narcotics," said Pittsburg police Inspector John Conaty.
Their nineteen-year-old son, Sterling, came out against this claim--saying that he grew and stored medical marijuana. They had nothing to do with his legal business--in California the growth and use of marijuana is perfectly legal if prescribed by a doctor.
The son has a prescription for the growth/personal use of the plant.
"I have a prescription. I'm a patient. It was medical," Sterling said, "This one officer I remember at the house, he had this predisposition to think it was all illegal."
Rex Farrance, however, did not use marijuana, did not grow it, and did not have any dealings with his son's prescribed drug. It was not said whether or not any of the marijuana was taken or if they were robbed...if it was for marijuana, then it seems he was simply caught between him and criminals looking to score the drug for illegal purposes.
