article imageYahoo Buys MyBlogLog. No, They Didn’t. Wait, Yes.

By Chris V. Thangham     Jan 9, 2007 in Technology
Yahoo acquires MyBlogLog.com for $12 Million Dollars.
Ok so it’s official and confirmed from Yahoo: They bought MyBlogLog. This was first rumored to be happening in November, but was never confirmed and we updated our post to reflect that. This morning the news broke again but was pulled immediately afterwards. Now it’s popped up again. Since I had no idea if it was going to stick this time, I called Bradley Horowitz, Yahoo’s VP Product Strategy, and he confirmed the acquisition. And Om Malik was actually at dinner with co-founder Scott Rafer when the deal was finalized, so it’s a definite deal.
Yahoo announced today that it purchased MyBlogLog.com a social network for $12 Million Dollars. Soon users can log on to it with their Yahoo ID. Myblog.com's about page says the following:
You probably know a ton about your favorite bloggers - what they think about the subjects they write about, maybe some of their work and life history... you may even know what toothpaste they use. But how much do you know about all the other people who read their blogs? And how much do they know about you?
I just a browsed a few times, it is similar to a cross between Yahoo 360 and Myspace. Yahoo Blog users will increase besides that I don't know how big this deal is. Yahoo already has Technorati that does the same thing where you can read your favorite bloggers. Yahoo has such a big technical crew, they could have implemented the same in Yahoo 360 without purchasing it. I think Yahoo bought this as a protective measure before others could buy this Mybloglog.com.
Have you used Mybloglog.com? Will this deal help Yahoo?
