article image22 Pounds Of Cocaine Seized During Routine Traffic Stop

By bobSP     Jan 7, 2007 in Crime
Last night during a routine traffic stop, police seized over 22 pounds of cocaine from a motorist who had been pulled over for a malfunctioning taillight.
A van was driving up Interstate 35 when police noticed that the taillight was out. When the officer pulled the van over, the driver and passengers were acting suspiciously.
"After the gentlemen got out of the car, they were nervous. The stories didn't jive on where they were going and what they were doing," said Detective Derrick Pierce.
That's when the officers asked the men to allow them to search the van--they didn't find anything..but then they noticed the men were looking quite abnormally thick: They had 20 bricks of cocaine strapped to three of the men's waists.
"Noticed a bulge around the middle section of at least one of them, touched and discovered the packaging," Pierce said.
The police have valued the cocaine as worth more than $160,000 on the street. All of the men were from Mexico and are being investigated further.
