Saturn's Moon Titan a World of Rivers and Lakes

Images shot last summer by NASA's Cassini spacecraft provide the strongest evidence yet that Titan, a saturnian moon and one of the most Earth-like celestial bodies in the solar system, is dotted with a multitude of liquid lakes.

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and the second largest moon in the solar system, after Jupiter's moon Ganymede. It is roughly 50% larger than Earth's moon by diameter, and is larger by diameter and mass than all known dwarf planets. It is also larger by diameter than the planet Mercury, though Mercury is more than twice as massive. Titan is the only moon in our solar system to have a dense atmosphere. Until very recently, this atmosphere inhibited understanding of Titan's surface, but the moon is currently undergoing study by the Cassini-Huygens mission, and new information about it is accumulating. Titan was discovered on March 25, 1655 by the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens, and was the first satellite in the Solar System to be discovered after the Galilean moons of Jupiter. On July 27, 2006, NASA confirmed the presence of hydrocarbon lakes in Titan's north polar region. A study published in the jouranal nature says that scientist suggest that the lakes and rivers are being filled by rainfall from methane clouds, or from seeping beneath the surface. Cassini is scheduled to do 22 more flybys, the next one later this month, i cant wait to see what else they learn from this.
