A US federal Judge has ruled that Iran was primarily responsible for the 1996 terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia that killed many American airmen.
Judge Royce C. Lamberth overturned a previous ruling by a magistrate judge. Lambeth found that there was significant evidence that showed that Iran was indeed responsible for the attacks. However, Iran did not participate in the hearing saying they are a sovereign country and do not care what a US court says.
Judge Lamberth, however, said the Iran lacked sovereign immunity because the law was amended 10 years ago to exclude immunity for acts of terrorism.
Lamberth said he was persuaded by the testimony of former FBI director Louis J. Freeh. His evidence was so great, that Lamberth said he had no other choice but to rule in favor of the plaintiff.
However, it will be almost impossible to collect on the money..but the lawyer for the plaintiff has a plan to collect:
“What we have to do now is take the judgment and go all over the world and find assets that belong to the government of Iran,” Mr. Stiller said.
I really hope they can collect from them..this is just more proof to the violent and extreme history of Iran--there is no peaceful meaning behind anything that country does.
