Pedophilia, porn different: Expert

By Iamseven     Dec 21, 2006 in Lifestyle
Collecting kiddie porn -- even the most graphic images of child sex abuse -- doesn't automatically make one a pedophile, a noted psychologist said Tuesday.
The psychiatrist, Dr. Patrick Baillie, testified that it's possible for child porn collectors to keep the material for motives other than pedophilia. He was testifying in the trial of Calgarian Ricky Singh Rakhara.
Dr. Baillie told the prosecutor that accusing all people who have kiddie porn of being pedophiles is the same as calling anyone who has drugs in their possession a drug abuser.
Dr. Baillie judged that Rakhara has low to moderate risk of being a repeat offender.. this being based on Rakhara telling him that he wasn't sexually aroused by children.
Rakhara, 22, has pleaded guilty to child porn possession and being a party to its distribution after police uncovered 6,200 images and 296 videos on his computer and storage media.
I don't care why he had child porn, personally.. just that he HAD it, period. If he was planning on 'trading' the kiddie porn for adult porn he should still be convicted of transmitting those images and videos. Anyone who is willing to become involved in the child porn business in any way deserves jail time, pedophile or not.
