A disturbing and thought provoking documentary. Some of the practices exposed in Jesus Camp are part of a wider comprehensive attack on Muslims which abuses Christian beliefs to wage wars. Iran is declared to be the next victim.
Jesus Camp is a rare document. It is one of the few honest portrayals of the right wing evangelist's movement in the United States. It can shed more light on the "US war on Muslims" in general, and its war on Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran.
The documentary (available for viewing on this page) follows Pastor Becky Fisher and her congregation. Ms. Fischer, an evangelical Christian, helps run Kids on Fire, a summer camp in Devils Lake, N.D., that grooms children to be soldiers in “God’s army". The result is a very disturbing film. I'm not against religion at all, but not in this context. It is quite obvious to me that Islam was, and is, used by Iran to unite the Iranian people in order to kick out an American murderer and oil thieve - Iran had a secular government before the US destroyed it. In the same time Christianity is used to manipulate naive US citizens to murder and loot Iranians (and many other Muslims). One is a good use of religion and the other is an evil one- carrying God's name in vain.
Some Americans are in denial about their country
Some Americans are in denial. Christian fundamentalists in the US have eroded the separation of church and state. Nationalism and religion are a bad mix. I think this Christian Embassy promotional video demonstrates what kind of dangerous cocktail is brewing in Washington. In this Christian Embassy video, much of which was filmed inside the Pentagon, four generals and three colonels praise the Christian Embassy, a group that evangelizes among military leaders, politicians and diplomats in Washington. Some of the officers describe their efforts to spread their faith within the military. One can see American religious fundamentalism occupying prominent power positions in the US. Here is Pat Robertson on a short video clip, a very politically influencing religious fundamentalist leader, declares a holy war between Islam and Christianity is on its way. Right-wing Christian evangelicals are organizing within all branches of military and ranking officers exert pressure on individuals within the military services. Former Air Force officer Mikey Weinstein says on Salon that evangelicals are trying to turn his beloved military into a "frickin' faith-based initiative". He founded the MRFF earlier this year to oppose the spread of religious intimidation in a military increasingly dominated by evangelical Christians.
Nationalism and religion mix in the Iranian case
In Iranian society this mix was forged as a tool of urgency to put an end to the CIA-SAVAK bloodshed and to generally defend Iranian society from the continuous Anglo-American aggression. I recommend this BBC's Hot Spots documentary on the topic - without knowing the information brought in it no discussion on the subject can be complete. The film portraits the US-backed coup of 1953, the hostage crisis in 1979, and the current nuclear stand-off which have all contributed to a mistrust between Iran and the US. It tries to examine whether a war between the United States and Iran is inevitable, or is a reconciliation possible.
The American people and the Iranian people can live in friendship
Without the war and fear mongers in power in the US the American people and the Iranian people can live in friendship. As people to people, Iranians gathered and lit candles, mourned the loss of innocent lives, and empathized with the families of the victims after 9/11 and after the Katrina disaster. A Reuters/Zogby poll finds the American people favors diplomacy on Iran. A majority of Americans want the United States to increase diplomatic efforts over Iran's nuclear ambitions, while 70 percent oppose the use of US troops to thwart Iran. And here is a BBC 4 minutes video report on American players in Iran's basketball league. Here is another 4 minutes BBC report from Tehran on Iran and America's Past.
Some Americans are in denial about what the world thinks of them and Iran
Plurality of public in five major European countries continues to See the US, over Iran and other countries, as the greatest threat to global stability. A Harris Poll of almost 10,000 people in France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain finds that a plurality continues to believe that the United States is more of a threat to global stability than Iran, North Korea, Iraq, China or Russia.
The US & UK war on Muslims in the name of God
Some of the practices exposed in Jesus Camp documentary are part of a wider comprehensive attack on Muslims which abuses Christian beliefs to wage wars. Tony Blair: 'God will be my judge on Iraq'. Tony Blair has proclaimed that God will judge whether he was right to send British troops to Iraq. George Bush: God Told Me to Invade Iraq. US president George Bush has claimed he was told by God to invade Iraq as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, and security for Israel.
