The Episcopal Church is not splintering, despite a decision by several Virginia parishes to leave and join Anglican conservatives, the head of the church said Monday.
The presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said that the parishes' move 'would not encourage other parishes to align with Nigeria's Anglican Archbishop Peter Akinola."
These congregations, two of the largest in the nation, are just a few out many totalling 7,000+ were said to be "not representative of the whole" according to the Bishop.
A total of 10 parishes have left across the nation and 2 more are deciding over the next few days. This split has been brewing since the 2003 consecration of the first openly gay bishop.
While she may say it's only a hand-full..the vote of 90,000 members of the Episcopal church to break away sure isn't a good thing for the church...looks like the idea of separation will peak its head many times over the coming years.
