Writer and Iranian ex-patriot Amil Imani treats us to another insider's observation of life under the rule of Islam, in this his most recent essay.
Wonderful Iranian writer Amil Imani compared Islamic ideology and the ideology that is Apartheid, and came up with some fascinating points of similarity.
Specifically, Imani examined the basic ideas behind the spread of apartheid and the spread of fundamentalist Islam. He also looks at the treatment of women and the treatment of racial unequals.
The result is a piece that not only is a fascinating comparison unto itself, but is even more engaging because of his inherant insider's view into the rising power of a political system under Islamic Law.
As tensions in the Middle East build, with the past weeks bringing more blatant threats by fundamentalist Islamic groups to bring their view of the way a country ought to be run, to their neighbors and to the West, Imani's ideas couldn't be more timely or relevant.
Amil Imani is an Iranian-born American citizen and pro-democracy activist residing in the United States of America. He maintains a website, http://www.AmilImani.com .
