article imageMiami chief's son gets 18 months in pot case

By bobSP     Dec 13, 2006 in Crime
The son of Miami police Chief John Timoney was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison for trying to buy 400 pounds of marijuana from an undercover agent in 2005.
Sean Timoney, 26, pleaded guilty in December 2005 to giving an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent a gym bag filled with about $455,000 in cash as partial payment for what he and a partner believed would be the delivery of 400 pounds of marijuana.
Wow, $455,000 dollars...just a partial payment? I've no idea how much marijuana typically runs for but that's a lot of money...and 400lbs? No wonder he got 1.5 years..I would have thought he would get 10+, but I guess being the son of a police chief gets you some breaks.
He was facing up to 40 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine...after his release he will be put on 4 years supervision and drug testing.
His partner? He got 37 months in prison...seems fair..only not.
