A Manatee that travelled 720 miles up the Mississippi river and eluded his would-be rescuers was found dead on the banks of a lake.
All three species of Manatee are listed by the IUCN as vulnerable to extinction. Although Manatee have no natural predators, human expansion has reduced thier natural habitat in the coastal marsh areas and many are injured or killed by collisions with powerboats.
Police spokesman Sgt. Vince Higgins says," We believe its the same one sighted a few weeks ago."
