The chief law enforcer in two Utah-Arizona border towns is accused of misconduct for pledging allegiance to the leader of a polygamous sect who was on the FBI's most wanted list.
"I love you and ... know that you have the right to rule in all aspects of my life," Fred Barlow wrote to Warren Jeffs, a polygamist cult leader. "Without priesthood I am nothing."
Throughout the letter the chief addressed Jeffs as 'Uncle Warren' and referred to himself as his 'servant.'
Jeffs is the police chief of a joint station between Hildale, UT and Colorado City, AZ. Jeffs is the leader of the Fundamentalist Mormon church, which has 10,000 followers in those two towns. The members of his church are taught that he is a prophet and that they must revere him and his words
If convicted of misconduct the chief will lose his certification (and job)...If this letter is real, that's the least that should happen..he's putting his whole town at risk by being under the spell of the cult leader.
You know it's a bad situation when the police chief is a member of the cult.
