Airbus A350 XWB launches with Rolls-Royce
The engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce will be the first engine supplier for newly Airbus A350XWB, after the revamped aircraft was revealed at the Farnborough Air Show (UK). The new engine -- Trent XWB -- will have a thrust range of 75,000 - 95,000 lb (333-422 kN).
Trent XWB is the six generation engine of the Trent family and features the three-shaft arhitecture.
Reliability and durability are the main targets for RR and they promise to build a low-risk engine design.
EADS gave the go-ahead for Airbus at the beginning of the month after the initial project was canceled 5 month ago.
The previous aircraft version should have been powered by GEnx turbofan -- General Electric -- and Rolls-Royce Trent 1700.
A350XWB will enter service in 2013.
