Cheryl Paget traveled all the way from Mississauga to China in the hopes that she might one day be able to walk again from a controversial operation involving stem cell treatment.
Paget was paralyzed from the waist down after falling off a horse in 2003.
She decided to take a chance of walking again by going to China for a procedure that isn't available in North America.
The operation cost $21,000 and involved injecting millions of umbilical cord stem cells into her body.
From this, she now has some sensenation in her legs and some leg movements. She is unable to walk still but will return to China next summer for more treatment.
Stem cell can change the lives of so many people and help so many people. I hope one day this will be available in North America as part of our Health care.
