Retailers in the United States breathed a sigh of relief after the tally of this past weekend's sales. U.S shoppers have spent 19% more compared to last year.
Shopping on the day after Thanksgiving in the United States is the day stores call 'Black Friday'
because retailers once considered it the day they turned profitable for the year. This year, during the entire weekend, shoppers have spend almost 19% more compared to this same time last year. An average of 360.15$ (US Dollars) were spend this year up almost a full 60$ (US Dollars) compared to last time. The discounts offered to shoppers were enough to get even the most couch potato internet shoppers out of the house and into the stores.
``People were buying big-ticket items like plasma TVs for $1,000, compared to last year when it was laptops for $500 and two years ago when it was $20 DVD players,'' said Scott Krugman, an NRF spokesman. ``Consumers really responded to door-buster deals. They were expecting it, and they acted on it.''.
