What would you do if you were running for a spot on City Council and ended up in a dead heat?
Well, that's exactly what happened to Rick Cowan and John Paterson in Leamington, Ontario.
Initially, the race was close, very close, three votes close, so there was a recount. And, the recount ended up with identical numbers for each of the candidates.
The Municipal Elections Act for Ontario says that the only thing to do in a situation such as this is to decide the outcome purely by chance.
The candidates decided that the best method for this would be to have someone draw a name from a box.
