article imageDisproportionate Amounts of Lotto Wins for Retailers Explained

By Nathalie Caron     Nov 22, 2006 in Business
In what almost becaome an investigation for fraud, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. found that the reason for the disproportionate amount of retailers winning the lottery is due to their massive purchase of scratch tickets.
By buying a lot more lotto tickets then the average consumer, retailers have managed to rack up 96.8-million in prize money between January, 2000, and June, 2006, according to internal lottery corporation data.
This constitutes a total of 674 instant-win scratch tickets with jackpots of $50,000.
Of the major instant-win prizes, 65 tickets, or nearly 10 per cent of the jackpots, were claimed by lottery insiders for a total of $10.7-million during the past six years.
Kinda makes you think twice about your odds of wining, doesn't it.
