By Iamseven     Nov 13, 2006 in
A veteran Los Angeles Fire Department captain is facing a potential death sentence for allegedly torturing and strangling a woman to death before dragging her corpse for nearly a mile from the back of his truck.
The woman he is accused of torturing and strangling was 42-year-old Jennifer Flores. She was found, nude, on August 16th.
Police followed blood and tire tracks which led all the way from her corpse to the house of Fire Capt. David Jaime Del Toro.
The 50-year-old man will be arraigned Nov. 28 'on one count of murder with the special circumstance of torture, and one count of torture causing great bodily injury.'
The DA office has yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty.
'Flores suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, according to court documents, and was strangled to the point that her thyroid bone was broken and she bit her tongue.'
It is not known whether the two where romantically involved but ex-girlfriends of Del Toro's say he is physically violent.
'Recognizing his problems with alcohol and violence, the LAFD order Del Toro to attend substance abuse and anger management classes in 2002, and he was suspended from duty for three days.'
Obviously that treatment wasn't enough.. what a tragedy.
